Today’s plan wasn’t to pay a visit to Monkey Island and Grim Fandango creator Tim Schafer. But that’s how it ended up. At a bar in downtown Paris, with a couple of my former colleagues, we met the man. A very nice chap, as most game makers usually are.
When I got in, Marie, the PR person who set the event up, asked who I was. “I’m Nicolas from Gamocracy.com. It’s not up yet but it will rock the hell out of your world when it is”, I said with the utmost fatuity. “And here’s my card”. I handed the card, then she wrote my name and the site’s on the pass. Woooooooo, that’s the first ever!

#Fail - Marie spelled the name wrong...
She spelled the name wrong though! Oh Marie, what did you do? Gamocrazy instead of Gamocracy. Is that a bad omen? At least it’s a tad funny since at some point we really thought about calling the site like that…
One of our ambitions at Gamocracy is to let everyday gamers enter that kind of events at some point. This way they will get passes too. And incidentally they may get their hands on upcoming games they’re eagerly waiting for and talk to the devs. But that’s definitely secondary to the pass of course.
By the way, Tim Schafer was presenting Brütal Legend, a beat’em up with a death metal background that promises to be really fun to play and fun at all. Not too surprising coming from the guy who wrote the Monkey Island dialogues. Too bad it won’t be available on PC though.
I’m saying that because Gamocracy will be about PC games only to start with (= for the first decade, more or less).
