Reprezenting at the GDC

As a teenager, I found articles in gaming magazines about the Game Developers Conference to be so damn boring I’d skip them until they were all that was left to chew on.

It sounded like a grey place where grey people talked about grey wireframes for hours on end. Gasp.

15 years later, I’ll attend for the first time March 9-13th.

You know what? I can’t wait.

Yes, GDC, I was so wrong not to love you! I was young… I’ve changed, you know, you have to believe me. Let’s give ourselves a chance and start over.

Top 9 reasons why I want us to start over, GDC

1 – inner > glitter
2 – Independent Games Festival: 306 games and I still haven’t understood how the competition works. Thank Shigeru, BoingBoing has a good intro article.
3 –
so many parties I can’t tell where I’ll get drunk yet.
4 –
every step i’ll take, every move i’ll make, will bring a new opportunity to tell someone (who can get it, that’s the difference with a supermarket) about Gamocracy.
5 – coming
back with a year’s worth of videos & pics & interviews.
6 – bootcamping!
7 – staying in downtown San Francisco for a week.

8 –
game devs are my rock stars, it’s just that it took me 20 years to get it.

What would you see at GDC?

GDC has so much to do and see that I will have a hard time picking stuff. I could do it on my own, but maybe you could help a bit?

Maybe there’s a developer you’d really like me to try and get a hold of for a couple questions? A game you’ve spotted? An award ceremony you’d like to see covered more than another? Anything else?

Tell me and I’ll do my best to bring it here to the blog.
