As you might have gotten from my latest post, I rather enjoyed the Game Developers Conference.
So much that I wanted to tell you what I really really liked about it.
Meeting (a lot of) people is easy
Thank you Intel for the black leather couch at your booth. It saved my tired ass more than once and allowed so many good discussions. You could relax in there, plug the laptop to the power, get on the wi-fi and just chill and do stuff and watch other people win processors (of course, this is never you). (even if you played). (everyday).
Paolo Pedercini’s talk on serious games
I stepped into the room randomly, for the sake of catching a glimpse of a GDC talk. I started listening and… the guy was actually answering questions I had been asking myself for weeks! And he was fun on top of that. I stayed for the full talk of course, even waited to talk to him at the end. Gamasutra has an article about it.

Parties!
Monday, Tuesday: Free alcohol and food?! Where? How? Who could I meet that lives across the world?
Wednesday, Thursday: Hmm, what party will I attend? There are 5 at the same time and I’m just not sure. Wait, you’re offering free alcohol? Actually it’s not even a treat anymore.
Friday: Yeah I know… I said I’d show up but the legs are just too sore. A full week of walking, man. And I already got 150 business cards. nvm
Parties at GDC? Too many for one man
Monaco
…is a good co-op game that requires very little set up and time. Apart from the usual co-op suspects, it reminded me of Super Monkey Ball (was it on the N64??) with 3 friends: fun, yelling, adrenaline, unfairness, etc. I’m waiting to see if it can hold its own for more than a few hours.
Monaco won the Grand Prize and the Best Design award at the Independant Games Festival 2010
San Francisco
…is a colorful city where you can get by without a car. Some are nice though.
Flower car!
And remember we also have…
