Reminder: Doyle Donehoo interview this Thursday Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

dawn-of-war-2-logo-190Yes Gamocracy people, in just 2 days, we’ll be running a live interview with Doyle Donehoo, the composer for the music for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 2 and the game’s expansion Chaos Rising. Anyone is invited to attend and ask Doyle their questions.

n|Toaster and Gwindyz have already signed up. I guess Imbaer from www.dawnofwar.de will show up too so for now it’s the 4 of us doing the interview.

If you’d like to join us, here’s all the information you need:

Date & Time:
Thursday April 22nd at
21 CET
3pm EDT
12pm PDT

To take part, you need:
– the Xfire client installed on your computer
– to add friend “gamocracy” to your Xfire friends list
– I’ll be in touch sometime before the interview starts

The transparency statement: I used to work at Xfire and that sure has something to do with picking their software as the chat interface. What can you do? This bunch of Americans are my friends now…

Getting gamers to meet the people making the games is something I’ve been willing to do way before the first code line was even written for Gamocracy. This Thursday will be the first event of that kind. Milestone! yay. And we have more lined up.

I suck at Heroes of Newerth Sunday, April 18th, 2010

After the longest proceedings with myself, I prefer coming out with that before someone else does it for me: I suck at Heroes of Newerth.

hon-stats-cut

I started with a 1500 rating, just like everyone else, and I’m now at 1390. And that’s after a group of friends invested a full night worth of playing time pulling me out of deep water. Before that I got as low as 11xx.

If I were into diving I could compete with Jacques Mayol. Unfortunately, in HoN the goal is not to go down.

But that’s not all…

Let me just take a deep breath before I go all out.

Interview of Doyle W. Donehoo on April 22nd Monday, April 12th, 2010

Last month I attended the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, some kind of magical place where sitting in a big black couch is all you need to do to meet people who make games.

dwd4-135One of these people is Doyle W. Donehoo, who composed the music for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 2 and its extension, Chaos Rising. I met Doyle at the very end of the day, in an almost empty GDC, at the time when carrying the laptop has turned into a chore and you really really don’t feel like getting up on the feet again. With all lights out, we almost got wiped by the people doing the cleaning but before that I could ask him if he’d be up for an interview…

And he agreed!

Doyle has a website where you can listen to some of his music. He also has a last.fm profile where he uploaded several pieces but I never used last.fm so… I couldn’t get to listen to them? I mean I didn’t find the “play” button on those tracks of his… (What’s up with the UI, guys? Someone help?!)

header-200Anyway, the idea is you and I get on Xfire on Thursday April 22nd together with Doyle and do an interview with him. On the occasion we’re working with Dawn of War community site dawnofwar.de who will be inviting hardcore fans of the game to the party.

Wake up early with Gamocracy Friday, April 9th, 2010

After nearly 5 months of closed testing, I was starting to fall asleep. Opening wide sure woke me up! With time passing by, I realized it’s tough doing a lot of stuff around something that’s closed. Unless you’re a Starcraft or a Battlefield, of course.

Feeling the people’s input is key in creating something that’s for them to use. I especially appreciate the little slaps of negative feedback. They make me wake up early.

Oh yeah, hit me some more baby one more time!

Thank you everyone that’s been stopping by or taking part in Gamocracy so far. We’re trying to do good stuff here, bear with us (or even better, let us know) if you see shortcomings.

Yesterday I attended a presentation of Super Street Fighter 4 by the game’s producer, Yoshinori Ono. I couldn’t talk to him but I still got this signed pic:

Talking to people that make games is something I’d like to do and I’d like to get Gamocracy users involved when I can, too.

I have stuff in the works for that. I’ll let you know!

Gamocracy opens to everyone Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

It’s been almost a year working behind close doors and without a budget… Today we’re finally opening Gamocracy to any gamer -anyone actually- willing to get PC gaming opinions and information straight from other gamers! YAY, this is the Internet, people!

And that feels good. damn.

At your disposal, we have…

  • Ratings
A short form for your opinion on a game (soon you’ll be able to write full reviews too)
  • Glinks
Glinks are gaming links you share in a blink. If you come across a gaming link that’s interesting, just put it up for others to see on Gamocracy

If you’d like to write on Gamocracy, it’s all happening here.

Thank you everyone who took part in the closed testing! That helped quite a lot.

We hope you all enjoy what’s going on at www.gamocracy.com.
